So I work with this guy, Yadin, right. No, really, that’s his name. No, really, not makin’ it up. Anyway. If you wanted to smash something, like I sometimes do, or if you wanted to, yaknow, craftily dismantle something, like, oh, for example, bits of Yadin’s car, like I sometimes do, I’ve found a VERY reasonable bargain roundabout the rear passenger lock knob.

Remember Yadin? Of course you do. He’s a geek, yeah, but not your middle-of-the road sorta fixed-his-busted-glasses-with-tape garden variety geek, OHH no. He secreets this goo-like substance that gives an epoxy-like adhesion; fixing glasses with a more of a chrysalis approach. DO NOT get into a fight with this man. He’ll encase you in this weirdass stuff and then you’ll be sorry.

This was once part of an art installation done by @cmykdorothy called Washed Away, if memory serves. The slide in the jar had a picture inside for weeks. Then, one day? Poof, gone. A little freakin creepy, if you want to know the honest truth of it.

So we’ve been growing these seamonkies. And I had sorta… um… forgotten to feed them and stuff. But they were growing sorta large. And I was a little scared, but it was cool too, so I fed them. Then, like 10 or 12 of them just dropped freakin dead. These two remain. I think they are a mutated strain. This could get interesting.

So one day I’m all up in the Goog about finding fountain pen blogs (yeah, they’re out there) to add to my reading list, and I happen upon a blog called Carbon Fiber Gear. Seems it’s a blog about anything and everything that even came NEAR anything that was even mildly resembling of carbon fiber material, and they’ed once mentioned a pen.
Whatever.
Anyways.
So they had this post where if you subscribed to their newsletter (because hot breaking carbon fiber news needs a newsletter), you’d be automatically entered into a contest, the prize of which being a steel and CF bracelet. Newsletter? Hell yes, newsletter.

So I’ve been working on this whole science fiction story thing, Eyeslight, right, even if only in my head most of the time. My main character girlie is Istra, and @micala wanted to build her apartment, so I slapped out this-here sketch of Istra’s pad. Far out.

Ok so for Christmas I got a handful of fixer-upper fountain pens; antiques and the like. For you newbies, the barrel is the main body of the pen, into which fits the ’section’. Onto the section, the ink sac is attached. In some pens, like the Esterbrook, you just slide the section out, and tadah, pen guts. This is a healthy looking pen, taken apart in just such a way; an Esterbrook from a lot of 8 that I got from the eBay.

By way of contrast, this Esterbrook. What happened is, whoever owned this pen thought he could take it apart to clean it or refill it or otherwise make something different happen. He suceded only in twisting the ink sac into all manner of hell and giving up to let it rot for decades. THANK GOD IT CAME TO ME. Now I can make things right for this little guy.

Perhaps I can rebuild my Pen Karma after this repair FAIL. I read up on these pens before tackling this one. The article pretty much said “You’re going to break this pen exactly this way. I told you so.” Yep. pretty much. I have a plan to fix it, but it’s one of those “real” fixes from which none return. It involves very strong adhesives. What could possibly go wrong?

As good parents might, we took the Piggy to see Santa. And wouldn’t you KNOW the dumb luck? They put us and FREAKIN Table 13. Right by the door, with the cold air and the throngs of people coming and going. Lovely.

Piggy, however, had lots of fun. It’s just luck of the draw that had her, looking like that, in that mood, and me where I was, with my camera at the time, to take this picture, AND, to have the “ENJOY BEER” tabletent in the frame. Ahhh the giggles.

As the breakfast offered was just within Disgustingville city limits… bananas were well enjoyed.

We were #15 in line for Santa. But as it turns out, NO ONE, neither the patrons, nor members of the hosting body, were at all keen on holding true to the line order. We were forced to break into line somewhere around #30, after all the other breaker-inners. Piggy didn’t notice, only grownups count and get stirred up about stuff like that.

So we went to the DMV right. NO ONE ELSE was there. Me and my wife; TWO people working the joint. We were Number 62. But their junk was busted. We had to wait. So we left, ran some errands, came back. Junk still busted, still Number 62. They finally got fixed and we conducted business.

It’s like the DMV is the Front for what really goes on, which is the processing office for all the unbalanced Karma in the universe. All the Good things that never get seen and all the Bad things that never go unpunished get routed through the DMV Backoffice where everything is tallied and put into a FoxPro database, and the Office Manager has a pocketfull of rocks, right, and every time the database has to go offline for re-indexing, he moves a rock from one pocket to the other pocket, and nods approvingly. Then they take a shitty picture of you and send you on your way.

Despite the look of rancid disdain, The Piggy is actually quite pleased that we picked a Christmas Tree from the treefarm which contained a birdnest. The old guy working the tree-shaking device told her it was lucky, and put the thing in a festive bag.

If you haven’t noticed the sudden increase in image quality here at the WiP Update Desk, maybe you should look again. The standard WiP hardware has been in dire need of a new battery, and the stand-in gear is a notch above. It MIGHT even be a replacement…

In FACT, the quality is so good, that the WiP hardware was included in this very highly technical troubleshooting event this week. Massive thinking fuel was burned and uncounted man-minutes were logged in working this ratnest of a screwup through. Final assessment? Yep! The thing was plugged into the wrong socket. Yeah, it’s blurry, I was having a tough time keeping still for this pic, as you might well imagine.
Clearly, she needs fresh flowers for the house, but damn that’s one sizey basket. Heels? In the meadow? Srsly heels in the meadow? I want to ask her what’s going on, because I know there’s more to this story than I could ever imagine.
