Pen cleaning/picking time! Hmmm Which to choose, which to choose…

Nibs in the hottub; once in a great while, I’ll break down the nibs/feeds into components and do a serious clean, but for the most part, I’ll flush/drain until clear.

This may not look like much, but it’s huge. These Vacumatic pens should not ever show ink on the plunger. BASICALLY this is the equivalent of a severe lower G.I. blowout. Only one fix; full breakdown and refurb. With luck, I’ll get some repair tools for the birthday this year.

I blogged about this already but it’s just too crazy amazing to not mention again. Went to Otto’s one day (why not, indeed), got a Jolly Roger stout. Then a hornet flew into it. So I spooned the little guy out, flicked him onto the ground. He licked himself clean (why not, indeed), and flew away happy. Atta boy, little buddy. Then THEN later, my freakin beer smiled. I have witnesses, I did not doctor the head (why not, indeed). And here we go.

My wife got hooked on this Words With Friends (*scrabble*) iPhone app, so I started playing too. It’s a free app, and pretty fairly well done. You can start multiple games with friends, with strangers, you can even set it for pass-and-play and play offline with someone next to you. It’s free because of the ads that pop up after you play a move. So then one day, I got THIS ad, which isn’t anything huge, but if you zoom it (hmm zooming’s a theme isn’t it), this “1 New Person” that I am to believe is searching for me? Yep, TOTAL nipslip. Wardrobe Galfunction. WHAT THE HELL!? How did they get away with that? Anyway. Yeah, had to screenshot it. For the WiP.

So I loaded up like a dozen scrabble games (that’s how I do it) with strangers, started banging out words. Then I got stonebored with everyone (that’s how I do it), and started resigning games to get down to just the one with @micala. Yeah, here’s my gripe with this game… it must be YOUR TURN for you to resign the whole game. Which is all fine and good, except that Marivicalejp took DAYYYYYSSSSSSuh to play her/his move, after I played “JEW”. Sorree. It’s not like JEW is a bad word, it’s just JEW okay. So I had to stare at it until she showed up, made a move, and THEN I could resign and move on with my life. sheesh.

Got hooked on Tap Defense. Finally beat the hard level, on the easy mode, killing the last Politician demon there on the left side. Deleted that app. Done.

Okay, Big Marty.
Big Marty makes rolls and other bread-related things. We bought these buns, like, in what, JUNE? And we ate a couple, tasted mighty fine, but the remainder lasted, in our kitchen, without going stale or growing moldy well into November. WHAT. THE. FREAK. Seriously? What Big Chemicals is Big Marty into?

I greatly suspect it’s because of the AZODICARBONAMIDE. What the HELL is that shit? Never trust a chemical that starts with both the first and last letters of the freakin ALPHABET. Azodicarbonamide is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, the rolls endless, and the buns enternal (why not, indeed).

Who doesn’t love bacon? Farills. So I made some one day. Then I realized that my bacons were looking like claw-arms. And that’s when it crossed my mind that if only I had a bacon army, I could really make some things happen in this work-a-day world of artless mediocrity. ME AND MY CLAW-ARMED BACON MINIONS. But I ate the bits on bread with lettuce and tomato and mayo. Revolution shelved.

He secreets this goo-like substance that gives an epoxy-like adhesion; fixing glasses with a more of a chrysalis approach. DO NOT get into a fight with this man. Then, like 10 or 12 of them just dropped freakin dead. These two remain. I think they are a mutated strain. This could get interesting.

Ok so for Christmas I got a handful of fixer-upper fountain pens; antiques and the like. For you newbies, the barrel is the main body of the pen, into which fits the ’section’. Onto the section, the ink sac is attached. In some pens, like the Esterbrook, you just slide the section out, and tadah, pen guts. This is a healthy looking pen, taken apart in just such a way; an Esterbrook from a lot of 8 that I got from the eBay.

By way of contrast, this Esterbrook. What happened is, whoever owned this pen thought he could take it apart to clean it or refill it or otherwise make something different happen. He suceded only in twisting the ink sac into all manner of hell and giving up to let it rot for decades. THANK GOD IT CAME TO ME. Now I can make things right for this little guy.

Perhaps I can rebuild my Pen Karma after this repair FAIL. I read up on these pens before tackling this one. The article pretty much said “You’re going to break this pen exactly this way. I told you so.” Yep. pretty much. I have a plan to fix it, but it’s one of those “real” fixes from which none return. It involves very strong adhesives. What could possibly go wrong?

As good parents might, we took the Piggy to see Santa. And wouldn’t you KNOW the dumb luck? They put us and FREAKIN Table 13. Right by the door, with the cold air and the throngs of people coming and going. Lovely.

Piggy, however, had lots of fun. It’s just luck of the draw that had her, looking like that, in that mood, and me where I was, with my camera at the time, to take this picture, AND, to have the “ENJOY BEER” tabletent in the frame. Ahhh the giggles.

As the breakfast offered was just within Disgustingville city limits… bananas were well enjoyed.

We were #15 in line for Santa. But as it turns out, NO ONE, neither the patrons, nor members of the hosting body, were at all keen on holding true to the line order. We were forced to break into line somewhere around #30, after all the other breaker-inners. Piggy didn’t notice, only grownups count and get stirred up about stuff like that.

So we went to the DMV right. NO ONE ELSE was there. Me and my wife; TWO people working the joint. We were Number 62. But their junk was busted. We had to wait. So we left, ran some errands, came back. Junk still busted, still Number 62. They finally got fixed and we conducted business.

It’s like the DMV is the Front for what really goes on, which is the processing office for all the unbalanced Karma in the universe. All the Good things that never get seen and all the Bad things that never go unpunished get routed through the DMV Backoffice where everything is tallied and put into a FoxPro database, and the Office Manager has a pocketfull of rocks, right, and every time the database has to go offline for re-indexing, he moves a rock from one pocket to the other pocket, and nods approvingly. Then they take a shitty picture of you and send you on your way.

Despite the look of rancid disdain, The Piggy is actually quite pleased that we picked a Christmas Tree from the treefarm which contained a birdnest. The old guy working the tree-shaking device told her it was lucky, and put the thing in a festive bag.

Your Happy Valley Moment of Zen: A leaf picked up outside of my daughter’s daycare.

At the volunteer concession stand: CHEESE BALLS, oh wait, Blow Pops. DOESN’T MATTER, WHATEVER’S IN THAT BUCKET, YOU SELL IT TO THE KIDS.

At the volunteer concession stand: Orientation. There’s a beautiful irony here; never BEEN more disoriented than right there, right then.

Outside the volunteer concession stand. The mind strays for something, anything, that would explain what’s going on here. Mice? Well, Jesus, I hope not. Can you imagine? Mice that gnaw through concrete?

#SLCC08: SchwagBags contained a commemorative T-Shirt and tiny horse. Because you get a voucher at the sign-in table that you then exchange for the SchwagBag. Except for me, since they did not GIVE me a voucher. I became indignant and announced that I was in fact GLAD to not have a T-Shirt OR a tiny horse. Pulaski Fizz went to bat for me in the following manner by DIYing up a voucher for me. I would have attempted to cash in on it, but we were into the bloodymarys by then.

The bar at the bar was either freshly painted, which none of the employees seemed to 1) be aware of or 2) give a shit about, or was affected by some solvent or another which concluded in the EFFECT of freshly painted surface. SUCKS. Here, a prior patron attempted to shield us, the possible next patrons, from a fate worse than Dali, by applying their napkin to said moistened surface. Thanks to you, sir, prior patron.
